This book provides network managers, LAN administrators and small business operators with all they need to know to "interconnect" multiple locations or travelling employees that need to access a single location. The operation and utilization of virtual private networks is discussed both in theory and practicality, covering the technical aspects associated with encryption and digital certificates as well as the manner by which readers can create VPNs using readily available products from Microsoft, Cisco, Checkpoint and possibly other vendors. The author was among the first to write about the concept of virtual private networking in a series of articles published over five years ago, and in the intervening years this has become a very hot topic - with the technology being increasing deployed by companies. Virtual Private Networking, by Gilbert Held, covers the technology and the theory, but also shows readers, through numerous examples, 'how to use ' the technology.

Excerpt from A Handbook of Gastronomy: Physiologie Du Gout The principal merit Of Grimod de la Reyniere, and that one which endows him with sovereign claims to our grati tude, is that of having been the historian of cookery. His eight years of the Almanack of Gourmands represent eight years of contest. He has, as all journalists have, a good many inevitable faults, compliances, injustices, and careless judgments, but one cannot deny him ardour, de votion, and that faith which raises pie-crusts. We may say of him that he kept going the kitchen-stoves, after having saved them, perhaps, during the great shipwreck of the Revolution. At all events, he is the connecting link that unites the past to the future. Brillat-savarin is more especially a legislator. In him there is something Of Boileau. Yet he warms up now and then. His saying, And you will see marvels, has become celebrated. The Handbook of Gastronomy has had many editions, but not in quick succession: its success was made slowly and surely. Nowadays it is what is called a library book. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Jason Rhoades' work has its origins in the late nineteen eighties and early nineteen nineties when he studied at the University of California in Los Angeles under Richard Jackson and Paul McCarthy. This was a time when the Southern Californian performance scene began to open itself up to exhibition events and the art market in New York and Europe. Rhoades included performative elements in his spatial installations and developed his own thematic cycles of works from it. His sculptural language is trained on elements of mass culture and evolved metaphors by means of great physical exertions which ndash; in their temporality and singularity ndash; signify the unfulfilled desires for spiritual insight. Despite his early death, Jason Rhoades (1965ndash;2007) left behind a prolific sculptural oeuvre. For the first time, Eva Meyer-Hermann chronologically traces the total development and provides exemplary interpretations of this seemingly inextricable work comprising installations that fill entire halls. English and German text.

Quantum-Touch 2.0—The New Human endeavors to significantly enlarge the possibilities of what humans can be and do. In clear, step-by-step instructions, the reader will learn to easily demonstrate that human limits are as yet unknown. Readers can learn to do healing on multiple people at once to reduce their pain in minutes, work on multiple conditions at once, help people shift their own beliefs with the use of energy, and work across time and space. Readers will even learn to safely and visibly adjust the posture of multiple people simultaneously without touching. Science assumes that we are separate, and that our thoughts don't affect the outer reality. This notion is something that each of us can now clearly demonstrate to be untrue. The originator of the Quantum-Touch energy healing method and a popular workshop leader and speaker at conferences and holistic health institutes, Richard Gordon has been developing and refining Quantum-Touch since the publication of his best-selling Quantum-Touch: The Power to Heal. Gordon shares his discoveries in this new book, which takes Quantum-Touch to a far more powerful level. To enrich the book with scientific insights and commentary, Gordon sought out coauthors Vickie Wickhorst, PhD, and Chris Duffield, PhD. As academics investigating the convergence of science, technology, and the power of the human energy field, Wickhorst and Duffield serve as perfect guides to help readers, even skeptical ones, uncover their own process of discovery. This book is a must for all world travelers! From the Trade Paperback edition.

“When Matisse dies,” Pablo Picasso remarked in the 1950s, “Chagall will be the only painter left who understands what color really is.” As a pioneer of modernism and one of the greatest figurative artists of the twentieth century, Marc Chagall achieved fame and fortune, and over the course of a long career created some of the best-known and most-loved paintings of our time. Yet behind this triumph lay struggle, heartbreak, bitterness, frustration, lost love, exile—and above all the miracle of survival. Born into near poverty in Russia in 1887, the son of a Jewish herring merchant, Chagall fled the repressive “potato-colored” tsarist empire in 1911 for Paris. There he worked alongside Modigliani and Léger in the tumbledown tenement called La Ruche, where “one either died or came out famous.” But turmoil lay ahead—war and revolution; a period as an improbable artistic commissar in the young Soviet Union; a difficult existence in Weimar Germany, occupied France, and eventually the United States. Throughout, as Jackie Wullschlager makes plain in this groundbreaking biography, he never ceased giving form on canvas to his dreams, longings, and memories. His subject, more often than not, was the shtetl life of his childhood, the wooden huts and synagogues, the goatherds, rabbis, and violinists—the whole lost world of Eastern European Jewry. Wullschlager brilliantly describes this world and evokes the characters who peopled it: Chagall’s passionate, energetic mother, Feiga-Ita; his eccentric fellow painter and teacher Bakst; his clever, intense first wife, Bella; their glamorous daughter, Ida; his tough-minded final companion and wife, Vava; and the colorful, tragic array of artist, actor, and writer friends who perished under the Stalinist regime. Wullschlager explores in detail Chagall’s complex relationship with Russia and makes clear the Russian dimension he brought to Western modernism. She shows how, as André Breton put it, “under his sole impulse, metaphor made its triumphal entry into modern painting,” and helped shape the new surrealist movement. As art critic of the Financial Times, she provides a breadth of knowledge on Chagall’s work, and at the same time as an experienced biographer she brings Chagall the man fully to life—ambitious, charming, suspicious, funny, contradictory, dependent, but above all obsessively determined to produce art of singular beauty and emotional depth. Drawing upon hitherto unseen archival material, including numerous letters from the family collection in Paris, and illustrated with nearly two hundred paintings, drawings, and photographs, Chagall is a landmark biography to rank with Hilary Spurling’s Matisse and John Richardson’s Picasso.
