Steven Gerrard is a hero to millions, not only as the inspirational captain of Liverpool FC, but as a key member of the England team. Here, for the first time, he tells the story of his lifelong obsession with football, in an honest and revealing book which captures the extraordinary camaraderie, the soul-destroying tensions and the high-octane thrills of the modern game as never before. Born in the Liverpool suburb of Huyton in 1980, Steven first joined Liverpool as a YTS trainee and played his first game for the first team aged just 18. His career has gone from strength to strength ever since and he is now the team's captain and its lynchpin. Liverpool's incredible comeback in the Champions' League final in Istanbul in May 2005, recovering from a 3-goal deficit against AC Milan to win on penalties, is testament to the amazing power Gerrard has over his team. His presence on the pitch is a force to be reckoned with and places him amongst the very first rank of players in the world. A relatively private figure, Steven has rarely spoken out in public. Now, his legions of fans will be allowed an intimate glimpse of what makes their hero tick. He speaks for the first time about the torturous will-he-won't-he Chelsea rumours and his undying passion for Liverpool. His honours include two FA Cups, three League Cups, two Community Shields, one Champions League, one UEFA Cup, and two Super Cups. On 21 July 2014, Gerrard announced his retirement from international football. With 114 caps for England he is the third most capped player ever, after Peter Shilton (125) and David Beckham (115). Using examples chosen from a variety of geographical settings and scales, A. J. Gerrard presents a novel approach to the study of mountain environments. He provides a framework in which mountains as special environments can be studied and shows how, no matter what their location or origin all mountain regions share common characteristics and undergo similar shaping processes. Gerrard's integrated approach combines ecological, climatological, hydrological, volcanic, and environmental management concerns in a systematic treatment of mountain geomorphology. He begins by examining the special nature of mountains, including a new classification of mountain types. He discusses mountain ecosystems, stressing the interaction between biota, soil, climate, relief, and geology, examines the high-energy systems of weathering and mass movement, and analyzes the role of rivers and hydrology and the processes of slope evolution. Two chapters are devoted to the particular characteristics of glaciation and vulcanism in mountain formation. The book concludes with a discussion of the special problems that human use of mountain regions create, including engineering, natural hazards, soil erosion, and the concept of integrated development.

A down-on-his-luck bush pilot finds gold in the jungles of Venezuela. September 1971 finds the pilot, Jack Weston, flying smokejumpers in the mountains of Canada. The crashing of his plane leads to some soul searching, and he debates on what to do with his life. He leaves Canada broke and down on his luck. Jack receives word from an old friend of a crop dusting job in Venezuela. While hitching a ride on a southbound freight ship to get there, he witnesses a murder, a shark attack, and more. He escapes in a leaking wooden lifeboat and is soon looking into the jaws of death again. Jack reaches Venezuela and begins to fly again. Soon, his crippled floatplane is swept over a 1600-foot jungle waterfall where he finds a ton of buried gold coins, hidden by pirates two hundred years ago. Getting the gold out of such a remote location proves to be a daunting task, riddled with bloodthirsty banditos and foul play. With the help of Layla, a stunningly beautiful Venezuelan woman he is attracted to, and his rowdy outspoken pilot-friend Austin Riley, they get involved in an all-night operation involving gunfire, low fuel, and a sizzling lightning-packed thunderstorm.
